This family live in the community El Cebollal upper area of the Miraflor nature reserve, the family is composed of 8 adult children, 4 sons, 4 daughters all married; all were born and grew up in Miraflor and went to the local school.

The whole family is a member of the UCA MIRAFLOR Cooperative, and they have been dedicated to the cultivation of coffee since 1993, their farm was cataloged as a model farm this for the care and conservation of the excellence of organic coffee, and grows coffee because it is a crop that keeps the land in good condition and because organic coffee is good for the environment.

The total area of coffee production is 3 hectares, but as a result of damage with rust disease we are now only producing 2 hectares.

Last year their coffee was assessed as being of  85% quality, which is very good.

The coffee season starts from January and ends in March, right now we are preparing to start the cutting process, for this we need the help of some people from the community.

The profits with coffee in recent years has been minimal since it requires a lot of labor  work, but we are left with the satisfaction of being able to continue growing and consuming organic coffee.

All the children now have their families and live in their own houses, two also grow coffee for UCA Miraflor.  Francisco and his wife who have three rooms in their house.

Francisco would like to be able to get new varieties of coffee that are more resistant to certain diseases, because growing organic coffee is more difficult every year.

Francisco really likes being part of the cooperative and has been a member for 35 years, there are many benefits, it is easier to sell coffee for a good price and share work with the other members. It is possible to borrow money as members of the co-op and the co-op helps students with a scholarship when they want to go to university,  or helps them train in other things like rural community tourism or learn more about growing coffee.
